DECTchat

Welcome to DECTchat, the live chatroom where members of the DECT global community can interact in real time with each other on topics of interest and build up their network of industry contacts.

This is the Java chatroom
for which you need Java enabled on your Browser
NB Firewall software can be configured to preclude Chatroom access - if you are behind a firewall, ask your IT administrator to open up ports 3000 to 3050 and you should  be able to use the Chatroom

Please enter your own firstname, and the password recently e-mailed to you from DECTweb, then click 'Join' to enter.  If you do not have a password, please click here to become a member of the DECTweb community and you will be mailed a password

Your browser does not support Java applets. Upgrade to a newer browser or use the Options menu to enable Java. You may also use the link bellow to access the HTML version of your chat room.

A typical problem with on-line chatrooms is that no-one is there when you look in or, if they are, the topic of discussion is of no interest to you.  We hope to pre-empt these problems by adopting a set of Guidelines, listed below, in order to make DECTchat a more useful facility to our members.  We would welcome your feedback on how these approaches are working and suggestions for improvement from the users' perspective - please e-mail us your views.  Thank you.

Guidelines for Use of the Chatroom

  1. Please Use your Real Name
Please use your ordinary name as your screen name when you join the chatroom.  This will make networking much easier for everyone else, as well as for yourself in future.
  2. Preferred Usage Times
Initially while news of DECTchat spreads we suggest members restrict visits to the chatroom to
        Friday mornings  9-10 GMT and
        Friday afternoons 15-16 GMT
This will increase your chance of finding other members in the chatroom.
  3. To Initiate a Debate
If  you'd like to initiate a debate on a specific DECT topic, please e-mail us with your proposed topic and date/time at least one week in advance (preferably two).  We will publicise it on the DECTweb website and will e-mail notice of the event to DECTweb members.   Initially we'd like to schedule these events for the preferred usage times shown above.   Please also include in your e-mail a list of proposed questions, discussion points, so that DECTweb members can assess whether they are able to contribute or benefit from the debate.
  4. Realtime Discussion Invitations
If you wish to initiate a chat and invite individuals to join you, provided you know their e-mail addresses you may do this using the realtime 'Invite' facility provided in the chatroom.  Again, initially we'd encourage you to do this at the preferred usage times.  (You can always 'Go Private' at a later time if you wish).
  5. Abuse
By restricting the chatroom to members of the
DECTweb community we do not anticipate problems of abuse of the chatroom, but nonetheless we would appreciate being informed should you come across any cases of abuse whilst visiting the chatroom.  If possible, please cut and paste any offending material, together with the screen-name and date / time of occurrence to assist us in offender tracking.  Thank you.
  6. Java and Firewalls
DECTchat chatroom uses Java  - please ensure that you have the 'Java-enabled' feature of your browser switched on.
You will find this in your browser menus as follows:
    * If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer: look under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced
    *  If you have Netscape Communicator: look under Edit/Preferences/Advanced

If you have not participated in a DECTweb chat session previously we would strongly encourage you to try to access the chat room in advance of a scheduled session to check out your system.  Our experience is that a few users are using computers on company networks which have effective firewalls configured to prevent access !  If this is the case you may either need to ask your network administrator to find a solution to allow you to participate or locate another computer which is not on the network but which has dial-up access to an ISP.
