Viasystems Group, Inc. to Acquire Lucent Technologies' Rouen, France Facility and Will Perform Manufacturing Services for Lucent

Viasystems Group, Inc. (NYSE: VG - news), a leading global provider of electronics manufacturing services, announced today that it has signed an acquisition agreement to acquire Lucent Technologies' Rouen Global Provisioning Center, in Rouen, France (Lucent Rouen). Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Lucent Technologies' Rouen Global Provisioning Center is dedicated to the production and logistics for the radio telecommunications and the transmission sectors. Additionally, Viasystems and Lucent have entered into a 30-month supply agreement for those products currently produced in Rouen.

The radio products manufactured in Rouen include Integrated Radio Telecommunication (IRT) Multipoint Wireless Access, SWING/DECT (digital enhanced cordless telecommunications) fixed wireless local loop systems, cordless terminal adapters (CTA), and microwave radio products. The transmission products consist of SDH Multiplexers for synchronous digital hierarchy networks, and quality enhancing equipment such as echo cancellors and 2 Mbps path protection systems.

Lucent Rouen is certified ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 and has developed the necessary functions required to operate as a standalone manufacturing organization, handling order management on a ``driven by demand'' production flow basis. Lucent Rouen has significant manufacturing, engineering, scheduling and procurement capabilities. Lucent Rouen has developed a strong expertise to manufacture telecommunications network equipment and other complex electronics/radio based products in medium to long runs, including:

  • Assembly, test and repair of printed circuit boards (PCBA)
  • Assembly, wiring and testing of electronic components and subassemblies
  • Fine-tuning, testing and repair of radio frequency and microwave technologies, subassemblies and finished products.
  • Proficiency at order preparation, packaging, shipping, customs clearance and transportation.

``We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Lucent Technologies' Rouen facility,'' said James N. Mills, chairman and chief executive officer of Viasystems. ``Lucent has been a very strategic customer of Viasystems since our inception, and we are pleased that Lucent chose Viasystems to outsource this integrated manufacturing facility. We are very excited about the opportunity to serve Lucent and other strategic customers from this facility.''

``As a significant global supplier to Lucent Technologies, Viasystems is ideally suited to take over the operations of Lucent Rouen. Lucent Rouen is an excellent facility and we expect that it will continue to serve Lucent well over the foreseeable future,'' said Ronald Scachitti, Vice President of Lucent's Wireless Access Solutions business unit.
