September 2000

DECT6000 combines cordless telephony, on-site paging and personal security in one handset

The new Philips DECT6000 system from Philips Communication, Security & Imaging (CSI) integrates on-site paging, digital cordless telephony and personal security into one single system. One DECT6000 handset is enough for telephone calls, paging messages and other data. This allows personnel on the move to be reached in a variety of ways, at all times and regardless of location, and gives them a wide range of options in how they respond. This helps make staff more effective, and increases company efficiency.

When used as a standard telephone, the DECT6000 handset offers full functionality including internal and external dialing, electronic address book and PABX functions (e.g. call transfer). The system uses DECT, one of the best digital cordless telephone technologies available, which gives high speech intelligibility.

As a fully-featured on-site paging system, DECT6000 allows alphanumeric messages to be generated and sent to individuals or groups of users. As an example, entire groups of people (e.g. cardiac teams, fire brigade, maintenance personnel) can be contacted simultaneously when an emergency arises. Different priorities and bleep patterns can be used to identify the urgency of the message call. In addition, information like process parameters or patient data can be received and read.

An optional personal security function on the DECT6000 handset reassures lone workers or personnel operating in potentially dangerous environments (e.g. industrial complexes, psychiatric institutions, deserted premises at night). One press on the button and help is on the way, with the exact location of the person in distress.

A typical DECT6000 system consists of a control unit connected to a PABX exchange, a number of base stations and handsets (max. 128), plus a messaging desk/server and interfaces with external systems like building control, remote contacts, fire alarm and nurse call. DECT6000 functionality can easily be added to an existing (DP6000) paging system. The two systems then function as a single, integrated communications infrastructure. DECT6000 meets all the normal industry standards and requirements.

With this combination of mobility, reachability and flexibility, DECT6000 is ideal for staff in healthcare establishments (from hospitals to nursing homes, clinics and psychiatric institutions), industrial complexes (including petrochemical and electro-technical) plus many other types of organisation (e.g. retail, factories, large offices).
