Binatone announces GfK Market Research Figures for Year ending September 2000

DECT cordless telephones have one of the fastest growth rates of 77.7% in volume

The latest GfK figures, show that DECT cordless telephones are one of the fastest growing sectors of all domestic telephone categories with growth rates year on year up to 30th September 2000 of 77.7% in volume, and 48.9% in value. The figures also reveal and confirm that DECT cordless telephones out sell Analogue cordless telephones, with DECT taking 54% and Analogue 46% of the market by value.

Latest GfK figures also show Binatone's DECT market share for the month ending 30th September 2000 increased to 17.1% in volume, showing that Binatone have overtaken Philips and now hold the number 2 position.

The successful Binatone DECT range has been winning many prestigious awards. The Eurotel 3200 Dect cordless, has just been given a five star rating and awarded the title of 'BEST BUY' in the September issue of the top gadget magazine 'Stuff'. Winning the top slot over many leading models including the Ascom, Ericsson, BT/Siemens and Panasonic.

This award comes close on the heels of another given recently in a survey published by 'What Cellphone' magazine scoring over 90% for value and features and also receiving an 'AWARD OF EXCELLENCE'. Binatone scored higher than Philips, BT/Siemens, Samsung and Cable & Wireless in the "What Cellphone" survey.

Commenting on these latest GfK research figures, Dino Lalvani, Sales and Marketing Director said "I am very pleased we have been able to increase our market share in DECT to over 17%. I believe the main reason for this is due to our deep understanding of how to read the market, as well as designing and developing products that meet the consumer needs. I believe the overall market of DECT, and our market share would have grown much more, if we did not face the semi conductor shortages which were common throughout the industry".

GfK's 1999 year end research figures have found that on an average over the last ten years the Binatone/Dialatron brands have dominated UK consumer telecom product sales, their average volume brand share for the last ten years is 24.6% which is higher than any other brand during that period.
