Butsilver.gif (1501 bytes) DECTweb Exclusive:  DECT Data Demos at DECT2000
At the DECT2000 Exhibition RTX Telecom will show two different applications of DECT Data:

1) A Wireless ISDN (IIP) system. One end of the wireless system is a DECT ISDN fixed part connected to an ISDN line. To this fixed part a number of standard GAP handsets are supported. An ISDN portable part is then connected to the fixed part over the air using the Intermediate ISDN access Protocol. At the portable ISDN part a number of standard ISDN telephones can be connected. The system is implemented using LU7/LU8 data services, i.e. Forward Error Correction (FER) and Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ)

2) A Wireless Video Conference System using DECT Packet Radio Service (DPRS). The fixed part of the systems consists of a PC with a camera and a DECT FP connected to the PC using the USB interface. To the FP a number of standard GAP handsets can be connected. The portable part of the demo system also contains a PC with camera and a DECT PP connected via the USB interface. The FP and PP are wirelessly interconnected using DPRS supporting the LU10 services and having a unidirectional throughput of up to 552 kbit/s.

If any other exhibitors at DECT2000 would care to give DECTweb a sneak preview we'll gladly let our visitors know what's in store....

Butsilver.gif (1501 bytes) FUN Communications uses DECT Modules for Palm Cradle
One recent example of effective use of DECT modules is the wireless cradle for use with 3com's Palm III product, shown at the DECT Congress in September.   Configured as a point-of-sale terminal, the product was shown running restaurant software - the waiter simply uses the Palm stylus to enter the table number, the menu items ordered and presses 'send' to immediately communicate the order through to the kitchen, saving time for himself and customers.  At the end of the meal the bill can be directly radio'ed to the check-out printer to print the bill for the customer.
See our Innovations Page for more details
